Bowl of Dreams

Hello everybody. It's Donna here today, and I've got a couple of ideas for the papers in the gorgeous August Cropaholic Kit. If you haven't subscribed to this kit before, this is the month to start. So much fabulousness in a box. So, once I could finally bring myself to cut the paper, here's a couple of card projects that use some of the kit. You can expect to see a LOT more of this beautiful kit from me!

First up, I created a cute little shaker card that highlights the wood veneer shapes that come with this month's kit. I also added some sequins to each little pocket. I used the B side of two different papers so that the card wouldn't be too busy, and added a sentiment through the middle. A couple of the cute little puffy stickers from the many in the kit completed the card.

Here are a couple of closeups of all the sweet little elements.

Have you had a look at this month's challenge? This month we have a Tic Tac Toe challenge. Have a look at the squares, and choose three in a row to incorporate into your project, horizontal, vertical or diagonal. As an example, I've chosen the middle line horizontally, using Stencil, Cardstock, and Ink.

I have also used some of the ephemera from the August Cropaholic kit to make this card to play along with the challenge. I have a striped stencil in my stash, and I used this, using ink to colour the embossing paste to match the blue flowers in the basket of the bike.

A little bit of glossy accents made the bike seat and handlebars stand out, and tied them in with the shine on the puffy stickers.

Have a go, and then upload a picture of your project in the gallery on the Inside Inspiration page to win a gift certificate from the Shop and Crop store. We'd love to see what you create!

If you have enjoyed these cards, and would like to see more of my work, feel free to visit my Instagram page, where you can find lots more cards.

Don't forget, you can save $5 at the Shop and Crop Store using the code DL5. Why not subscribe to the Cropaholic Kit, which will cost less than a cup of coffee a day, and take advantage of the $5 off.
Until next time, happy crafting, and may your days be full of sunshine.

Add some Sparkle! Getting creative with the July Mood board

Hello everybody!

It's Donna here, and I've been having fun getting covered in glitter as I look at the July moodboard.
As I mentioned in my last post, there are so many different ways you can take a mood board, and todayI thought I'd go a little more left of centre with some cards based on just one of the pictures on the board.

At the centre bottom of the board is that picture with the 'Follow your Dreams' sentiment, and the sparkling lights. Even with this one picture, there are many ways you could go. The lovely rounded diamond shape of the picture would make a great collage for a card or scrapbook project. The Bokeh effect that the lights give would also make a great launching point. I have not used either of these ideas though, and have instead used the idea of dreams and the wonderful sparkle that this picture has as my inspiration.

This first card uses a journaling card from the Crate Paper 'Cute Girl' collection, as well as some sparkly washi and sequins. I added further sparkle by Gold embossing the 'Remember' tag from the Kaisercraft 'Limelight' stamp. This card also includes the button from the Echo Park 'Once Upon a Time Prince' Brads collection. Some gold staples completed the card.

Next, I added sparkle by using Gold paint to paint a stamped image. This could be done with these colour shimmer cubes. Once the image was painted, I flicked on some more gold paint, (because more is more, am I right?) and gold embossed the sentiment.

Finally, I used my all time favourite cute girl vellum and added sequins and a sentiment that I die cut from gold glitter paper to make the final card. This card is very sparkly indeed, and I think captures some of the celebratory spirit of the Mood board photo.

Here's a closer look at all that sparkle!

Thank you, thank you, thank you

Hello crafty friends!

It's Donna here, and I do have a lot to be thankful for, but the title of this post is due to the fact that three of the four cards that I'll show you today are thank you cards. It seems that I was on a roll!

If you are interested my take on the Inside Inspiration July Challenge, make sure you read to the end of this post. I've included details and my take on the inspiration image for your perusal!

I give a LOT of thank you cards. It's really nice to have these sitting in my stash of cards, so that I'm always ready to give them away. It's particularly pleasing to get some masculine cards for my stash.

This week I've been playing with the Once Upon A Time range from Echo Park. This is a great range, with a strong medieval theme. If you have a child like one of mine, who spent several years of his childhood planning to be a knight when he grew up, this is wonderful for scrapbooking. Today, however, I've made some cards.

For this first card, I've used the mosaic tile paper and accented it with a watercolour panel. I used one of the colours in the paper, and painted two layers of watercolour paint, before spattering it with the same colour paint in a darker concentration. I then stamped the sentiment in a bold font. This is a great way to use ANY patterned paper, even very different papers to this, like cutesy papers. Just choose your favourite colour or colours from the paper and have a play. Let each layer dry before you paint over it. Here's a close up of the layers of paint.

Next, I made a shaker card, perfect for a young boy or girl who's into dragons.

Using the dragon paper as a background, I cut a frame from another contrasting paper from the range and added coordinating sequins behind the window panel. The little tag below the frame is one of the gorgeous Enamel shapes that are available in the store. Look at how glossy that tag is!

This next card is a great way to use up scraps of paper that you may have leftover from scrapping. I have used five different papers from the  Once Upon A Time range, as well as Enamel dots and Enamel shapes. They all coordinate perfectly, which saves a lot of rummaging for the correct colour of embellishment. (does anybody else do a lot of this?)

By popping the tags up at different heights and adding the enamel pieces, I was able to get quite a bit of dimension in this card.

Now, as promised, to the Inside Inspiration Challenge.
This is the gorgeous image that is the inspiration for this month. There's so much there to choose from- the colour scheme on the bottom left, the silver circles or the individual letters of the typewriter, the polaroid style photos, the look of the hanging elements or the world map in the bottom right, the idea of following your dreams - the list goes on, and your entry doesn't have to look like any of these pictures, as this is just a springboard for ideas. You can stay close to it if you wish, but you don't have to. Make sure you get yourself added to the Inside Inspiration Facebook group so that you can enter and win a credit to the Shop and Crop store.

I took inspiration from the apricot and grey, as well as the silver in the typewriter image to create this card, using one of my favourite techniques, which is Copic colouring.

Although the overall look of this card is grey and apricot, if you look closely at the main flower, you can see purples, blues, browns, oranges and yellows. This kind of colouring is like therapy!
