Sand Between Your Toes

Hello Everyone

I only have one more sleep and then my two children are back at school, so today I thought I would share a layout with a photo of my then little man. In the photo I think he is about two and tomorrow he is going off to grade three. Not really sure how that happened.

For this layout I used the January 2018 Crop kit. The paper within the kit is Summer Breeze by Penelope Dee. I had never used or even see this paper so glad that I got the chance to use it.

Here are some close ups

We call my little man Mr Serious and this photo is a perfect example of him playing but with that look of complete concentration on his face. He still has that look today.

Ice Layers

Hello Everyone,
its Deena here on the blog today and I have something a little different. In my latest design team package I received the Ice Layers from Faber-Castell. I wasn't really sure what to do with them so I watched a Faber-Castell youtube video where they used gelatos. Well I decided to experiment a little and I also used Scribble Sticks and Magicals.

I haven't completed a finished design it was more of a road test to see what I could use and do. I started out with 4 pieces of thick watercolour page which I covered with a layer of gesso.

I always use circles but today and decided to go with the middle design in the above top photo which is called Geode. Now the ice layers, are a sticky rubbery stencil/embellishment. They can be used as a stencil that sticks to your surface and can be removed or you can leave it as part of your design.

For my first test I used my magicals. I laid the complete sheet over my paper and then sprinkled my magicals over the top.

I sprayed water over the surface to activate the colours, I then picked up the excess water by rolling my roll of paper towel over the top. Once I had removed the excess water I gentle pulled of the ice layer as I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to. Success it worked and it didn't rip my paper. When the ice layer was removed I then dried the wet surface of my paper with a heat gun.

Next I used my scribble sticks, some of the colour from the magicals did stay on the ice layer and it did transfer to my paper, but that's ok as its part of what I am testing. I laid the ice layer over the top of my watercolour paper and chose 3 different scribble sticks to colour in the shapes. Once all the shapes were coloured in I wet my paint brush and added water to the surface of my paper and ice layer. I was a little concerned as I started to pull this one up but it did up completely up and did not tear.

This last time I did things a little different, with my gelatos I coloured my watercolour paper and then I laid the ice layer over the top. I did not remove the ice layer but cut it down to size and then with a baby wipe removed the colour within the exposed shapes.

I really enjoy playing with new products and this one was no exception. I still have the other two to play with so who knows when you will see them in future design team work.

Little Lindy Try-Me Kit

Hello

Today I want to share with you a canvas tutorial and how I used Little Lindy Try-Me Kit from Lindy's Stamp Gang. Included in the pack was a Magical - tiffanylou's blu, 2 starbursts - crème brulee cream and tiffanylou blue and a moon shadow mist - van dyke sepia. Lindy's products have to been one of my favourite things to use. Just a tip to remember, they are water reactive so what every wet substance you use over the top of them it will react with the lindy's product.

This is what I created

I started off with a canvas that I found in my stash, the dimensions are 15.5 x 15.5 cm by 3.5 cm in height. Then using gesso I put a really, really thick layer of it all over my canvas (including the sides). This layer is not smooth by any means. I love texture and I was getting texture even if it took days to dry. Before it did dry I found some thread, not actually sure what it was, again just in my stash and wrapped it around and around and around my canvas in all directions, make sure that I pulled it tight so it was embedded into the gesso. The thread was not going anywhere but once the gesso was dry I tied off the two ends. To incorporate the thread a little bit more I put more gesso over the string so that it didn't look like it was just sitting there.

Here is a close up view

I have to admit this canvas has been sitting on my desk in this unfinished state since January. Yes you read that right. Way back in January I had this great idea of creating a canvas this way, so I did. Then it just didn't work the way I wanted it too. It wasn't until I got my design team package from Kylie and I saw what was in it that a new idea started to form and one that I knew was going to work.

The next step in creating the canvas was adding the colour

This close up shows the shimmer, it looks so different from above but this was sitting in full sunlight streaming through my window This gold shimmer came from the crème burlee cream so pretty.

I decided that I had lost some of the dimension and I needed to get that back. With my palette knife I added white gesso to the top of the thread adding dimension and contrast.

Finally I am happy with the canvas now I needed to work on the embellishments. I am using chipboard that was in my design team package and I decided to heat emboss it. When I am heat embossing chipboard I always do the process twice because it give a much nicer finish, the photos below show the difference between one coat (first photo) and two coats (second photo)

I glued the chipboard to my canvas and added the little quote down the bottom and it was finished.

Crushing on the Colour Crush Watercolours

Hi All Tanya here...

Who has tried the Color Crush Watercolors???? If you haven't, you NEED to!! You wont be disappointed!

I have played with them a few ways, just to test them out and see what they can do. I stamped with them, i painted with them, i smooshed them, and sprinkled them, and I'm sure i could find another 101 ways to use them!

Once i got a feel for them i decided that smooshing them was may favorite method and this is how i created the background for this layout I used Raspberry and Blue Heaven. Then i used of cuts to build layers behind my photo.

Well thats all for me for now... I hope its inspired you to try something new!
