Mixed Media layouts by Tamara Buckler

Hello all,

Tamara here again today to share with you a couple of layouts I created using the Expo Kit No. 4.

My first layout is called 'Hello' and I used the white mixed media card stock from the kit and features a lot of the gorgeous 'vibrant turquoise' Dylusions spray. I achieved the affect you see here by using the packaging technique and a lot of water. The great thing about the mixed media cardstock is that you don't have to add Gesso, which I think gives a much more organic look, and it does hold a lot of water so you can achieve different effects.

I used the Dylusions 'Black Marble' spray to colour the Memory Maze chipboard, and then also by soaking up the ink with a dauber, I was able to push it through the Kaisercraft quad template. I then used some old Kaisercraft stamps from my stash for extra interest, and then the good old ink splatters with the Dylusions to finish the background off.

I inked around the edge of my picture using the dauber with the Dylusions ink and the layered up some paper scraps behind my pic. I then added in some thickers from my stash for the title, a bit of washi tape, some black cotton and some Tim Holtz 'Small Talk' to finish off my page.

My second layout is using the same kit, but this time on some black Kaisercraft cardstock I had in my stash.  To create the background I mixed some of the Dylusions 'Vibrant Turquoise' in with some texture paste and smeared it down the middle of the page. I then added some more for a deeper colour, and did the same thing down the left hand side. The gold smear is the Nuvo Gold Mousse, this stuff is delicious, seriously like icing!

Once the background had dried, I used the Nuvo Gold Mousse through the Kaisercraft quad template. I thought these grungy letters worked in really well with my back to school photo. I also ran the Gold Mousse around the edges of my pages, with the odd over smear around the page, which helped to grunge things up a bit. The gold on the black cardstock really pops!

I layered up the photo on the hessian included in the kit. This is so great for adding texture, I don't know why I don't use it more often! I added a little bit of journaling on the black journal spot included in the kit, some thickers from my stash and that was layout no. 2 done!

These kits are seriously such good value, and include so much product that you really can just keep going with them.

I hope you enjoyed my layouts today, and I'll be back again soon to share more with you!

Big Loves,
Tam x

Mixed Media Fun with Sarah Rosse

Hello crafty friends, Sarah with you today using the AMAZING June Mixed Media Kit, designed by the one and only Elisa Ablett! That girl is seriously amazeballs! I had so much fun using this kit to make the cover page our our family 2017 album. The Mixed Media kit can be purchased instore as a once off or for a 6 month subscription. A subscription brings the price down to only $36.95 per month and what great value that is! The June kit is especially one of my favs due to the exclusive graffitti stamp in the kit designed by Elisa. I used this in one of my last blog posts and I just can't get enough of it!

This layout was completed on an 8.5x11 inch page and I followed the full step by step instructions that come with the kit - perhaps this layout size is a little small in hindsight to get the full effect of kit - I mean, you want to ensure you have enough room for those gorgeous paint brushes with paint strokes at the bottom of the page. Whilst mine doesnt quite look like Elisa's, I am pretty happy with it. Let's take a closer look....
The other tip that Elisa outlines in this kit and that I wanted to bring to your attention today is using your wooden veneer pieces as stamps. As you can see below, the skull and the peace sign (both come in the kit) were used to stamp on to the graffitti wall background.
To achieve this look, I simply applied paint to the piece using a paint brush, turned it over and stamped on to my layout! What a great idea! You could use any wooden veneer pieces you have in your stash and create stamps with them! Shop and Crop have an extensive range of wood veneer products in store that can be purchase by clicking here. I'd love to see what results you get trying this technique and thinking about how we can extend and use our supplies in various ways.
Until next time, happy creating!

Mixed Media Kit - ALL BOY and August Challenge Tic Tac Toe!

Hello there,
Here we are in the 8th month and August is flying by...  I hope the cooler days have meant some inside scrapping time with your SHOP AND CROP KITS which are ready when you are to do some creating!!

I was sent a fabulous Mixed Media Kit/ Expo Kit no2 which is just perfect for your little man with products that are such fun to use.

This gorgeous layout was created by the talented Elisa Ablett.

As I created with this kit, I thought I would also share the instructions with you to show you some other ways you can create with this fun kit.

I started by finding a photo which I cut down from 10by15cm to 8by11cm but you can use a 10by15cm photo if you like. I distressed the edges of the photo and matt it on the smaller white paper in the kit. I also used some old cardboard to add some dimension/lift to the photo, foam tape or foam dots would work too. With that left over paper that you cut a piece out of for your photo matt we are going to add some color to that to use on our layout. Using the mixed media products from the kit we are going to create a random pattern on the paper.. I dropped some Teal color in drops on the paper and then swiped it across my page with an old toothbrush.  I then watered down some black gesso and used a lid from an empty washing liquid bottle and stamped the black gesso using both ends making messy dots and circles.  I also made some splats and drops with the black gesso - the messier the better I think!! I let all this dry and then I made some wriggly lines with the green paint and then watered down some of the green and used the base of the lid to stamp some circles and let this all dry..
This is what my paper looked like..

and a close up.
There are no rules for this, just use what you have on hand and have fun!!

Meanwhile as the paper dried I took an assortment of chipboard and painted them with the black gesso, the watered down green paint and Teal paint..

Set these side to dry while we begin to add some stamping and stencilling to the base cardstock for our layout.
With the stamp, I took the stamp to the ink pad and randomly stamped on my page..  If you dont mount the stamp on the acrylic block it will have an arty look rather than a square look on the back ground..  I added some texture paste to some black gesso and added some dots on the back ground using the stencil from the kit. It is always better to do less at the start, you can always add more later.. (which I did!!) And remember to clean your stamps and stencil immediately after use with a baby wipe.

I planned to place my photo in the middle section of my page.. but you can also put the photo to one side slightly more if you like.. that works well too..

Going back to the paper we painted, cut out strips about 1cm wide, but dont measure and it doesn't matter if some are a bit fatter than others..

(OOO excuse my dirty scrapping mat!!!!) This is what they will look like! Take your base and lay the strips on your page until you are happy with how they look..you may cut some to have the different lengths,  overlapping the edges slightly!

Using a good glue adhesive glue down the paper strips..

a close up..

At this point I decided to add some more stamping and some more stencilled dots.

Now back to the chipboard!! Take the circle which I painted with the teal and cut it into two pieces with one piece just a bit bigger than the other.

Cut the circle chipboard into pieces as shown.

Cut 10cms of the mesh and cut 4 strips from that and place randomly on the paper strips on your back ground. Now we will assemble the layout!! Place one circle piece on each side, with the slightly larger circle piece on the right side, and the larger circle chipboard pieces on either side of the photo with a smaller piece on top of the photo.

Using the chipboard pieces that were previously painted place  on your page layering the arrows and adding a little journalling in a space about your photo..

My completed layout..

All Boy!

and some closer views.

Such a fun kit and such a fun page for a photo of your little man!! You can get this kit in the Store HERE!!!

Oh and there were a few chipboard pieces and paper strips that I painted and didnt use so those leftovers were used to make a card adding some stamping and mesh strips.

And have you seen this months challenge for Shop and Crop Scrapbooking on the BLOG??? It is a fantastic Tic Tac Toe that looks like..

You can choose three things to use in a straight line and I chose to use the middle line, Stencil Cardstock and Ink..

a closer views..
The back ground using stamps and ink and a stencil and texture paste. I also sprayed a little mist on the back ground too..

And my layout..

You can put your layout up on the Facebook page HERE!!!

Thank you for reading this long post, I hope you have found some fresh inspiration to use in your creating..
You can find that fabulous kit in the shop HERE!!! dont forget to use the code LC5 for a $5.00 discount!!

'Beautiful' and 'Sweet' by Elisa Ablett

Hi everyone,

Elisa here from the design team with my latest layouts for Shop and Crop Scrapbooking.

I grabbed out the leftovers from a couple of recent kits which I created (links underneath the photos) for Shop and Crop Scrapbooking along with some other items from my stash.

The first layout below is called 'Beautiful' and uses the leftovers from Expo Kit 3 ( https://www.shopandcrop.com.au/collections/monthly-kits/products/expokit-no3?lshst=collection) and Colour Blast Shimmer Cube in Sunshine along with Lollipop Colour Blast Shimmer Dusts.

I used the Kaisercraft 'Mandala' Die to die cut the lovely patterned vellum from the kit, plus I used Lollipop Colour Blast Shimmer Dust for my  background ( i also used the leftover liquid to add colour to the butterfly diecut and the feathers) as well as the "Sunshine" Colour Blast Shimmer Cube (which comes in the kit) I painted the chipboard title with the Sunshine Shimmer Cube as well as the inside of the butterfly and feathers.

Expo Kit 3 - Beautiful

And my second layout is called 'Sweet'

This layout is created using the leftovers including the paints, papers and custom made stamp from the June Mixed Media Kit which can be purchased as a one off kit from Shop and Crop - https://www.shopandcrop.com.au/collections/monthly-kits/products/june2017mixedmediamaniakit-oneoffpurchase?lshst=collection

So to create the background, I used the blue and yellow paints from the kits and a piece of plastic and a small spray of water from a spray bottle and 'smooshed' paint onto the page using a piece of plastic like a sponge. Dry thoroughly then using an archival ink pad and your custom made stamp stamp a strip of graffiti up the page leaving about 1.5 inches on the right hand side border to add your two strips of paper.

After that I used a black marker and a small entree plate and created circles on my page to create a frame for where my photo was to go. Colour some chipboard arrows with your yellow paint and stamp on your chipboard pieces as well. Don't be afraid to add a die cut to cover part of your photo.

Here is the original kit which is available for purchase from Shop and Crop on the below link.

Well that's it from me today, I hope you have been inspired to pull out those old kits and use your leftovers to keep creating....The kits are so chock full of product you can still create loads of layouts with a little help from your stash...

Elisa xx
