Little Lindy Try-Me Kit

Hello

Today I want to share with you a canvas tutorial and how I used Little Lindy Try-Me Kit from Lindy's Stamp Gang. Included in the pack was a Magical - tiffanylou's blu, 2 starbursts - crΓ¨me brulee cream and tiffanylou blue and a moon shadow mist - van dyke sepia. Lindy's products have to been one of my favourite things to use. Just a tip to remember, they are water reactive so what every wet substance you use over the top of them it will react with the lindy's product.

This is what I created

I started off with a canvas that I found in my stash, the dimensions are 15.5 x 15.5 cm by 3.5 cm in height. Then using gesso I put a really, really thick layer of it all over my canvas (including the sides). This layer is not smooth by any means. I love texture and I was getting texture even if it took days to dry. Before it did dry I found some thread, not actually sure what it was, again just in my stash and wrapped it around and around and around my canvas in all directions, make sure that I pulled it tight so it was embedded into the gesso. The thread was not going anywhere but once the gesso was dry I tied off the two ends. To incorporate the thread a little bit more I put more gesso over the string so that it didn't look like it was just sitting there.

Here is a close up view

I have to admit this canvas has been sitting on my desk in this unfinished state since January. Yes you read that right. Way back in January I had this great idea of creating a canvas this way, so I did. Then it just didn't work the way I wanted it too. It wasn't until I got my design team package from Kylie and I saw what was in it that a new idea started to form and one that I knew was going to work.

The next step in creating the canvas was adding the colour

This close up shows the shimmer, it looks so different from above but this was sitting in full sunlight streaming through my window This gold shimmer came from the crème burlee cream so pretty.

I decided that I had lost some of the dimension and I needed to get that back. With my palette knife I added white gesso to the top of the thread adding dimension and contrast.

Finally I am happy with the canvas now I needed to work on the embellishments. I am using chipboard that was in my design team package and I decided to heat emboss it. When I am heat embossing chipboard I always do the process twice because it give a much nicer finish, the photos below show the difference between one coat (first photo) and two coats (second photo)

I glued the chipboard to my canvas and added the little quote down the bottom and it was finished.

Some OTP fun by Tamara Buckler

Hello again friends,

Well its been a huge few weeks for my little family, as we have moved into our brand new home! This has not been without teething problems, we've had no internet and I've had no where to scrap, plus not a lot of time up my sleeve, but we are past these little speed humps and I expect to be back sharing a lot more with you all now!

I am lucky enough to have a dedicated scrap space in my new home, as well as custom made desk. These are still a work in progress, but I felt the urge to make some OTP projects that can help me store things in this space.

As part of the 'reflection' challenge this month, I decided to redo a little MDF shelving unit I had already done. It was previously covered in Kaisercraft paper and some Dylusions paints, however it didn't match my new colour scheme. I was very grateful to have the We R Memory Keepers 'High Five' collection bundle to work with, and re-did the unit by painting over the previous look with Black Dylusions Paint, and then using the 'Brave' paper from the collection to cover the sides, and the 'Lunar' paper to cover the shelves. I used Modge Podge to adhere the paper to the unit, and then again over the top to seal the paper. I then added some stickers and ephemera from the kit for a little extra interest.

The second project I did was a desk caddy, and I used the much the same techniques and papers as the first project. I did start by priming the caddy with Gesso, and this made the paint soak in a little less and the paper adhere a little better.

I have now loaded up these two little storage units with all my goodies, and have set them up in my desk space, I love the way they look and how practical they are.

Here's a little sneak peak of my scrap space, I still need to add some extra storage to the walls, including some cork tiles to make a notice board, and some frames to display my pages.

Thanks for stopping by today! Cant wait to share with you all again soon.

Big Loves,
Tam x

Paperific Expo Melbourne

Hello,
Deena here with you today.

I cannot believe that it was a month ago that I was at Paperific here in Melbourne. I hadn't attend a show in years certainly not since it has been at the Royal Melbourne Show Grounds. This experience was totally different as I was actually working. If you call standing around talking to lots of friendly people and sitting and getting messy work, then yes I was working. When it came to saying goodbye I didn't want to leave, I had an amazing time meeting and working sided by side with Kylie and Darryl who own and run Shop and Crop Scrapbooking and also having a blast with fellow design team member Donna. I love making cards and I will keep doing it but watching Donna create was the next level. You can find the cards Donna made at Paperific HERE.

So what did I get to play with? I played with Expo Kit No. 4. which was designed by another design team member, the talented and gorgeous Elisa.

Instead of creating a layout a created a mixed media canvas (canvas not included in kit)
To start the canvas I spread a layer of gesso unevenly over the surface of the canvas. The reason for this was because I wanted to create texture (I love texture and layers) and I wanted to stamp into the wet gesso to create more texture.

I dried the gesso with a heat gun then using the same stamp that I stamped into the gesso with I used a waterproof black ink to stamp the image. Because the surface of the gesso was a little shiny I did hit the ink with a heat gun to make it was completely dry.

When I first started this canvas I really had no idea what I was going to do once I had completed the background. So at this point I had to stop and think. I had these amazing chipboard pieces that I really had to use. I found a black paint so I could colour the chipboard and set it aside to dry.

While the chipboard was drying, I added colour to my background. I used the dylusion spray that was in the kit and added water to make it run. You want to make sure that the colour spreads across you canvas, so that it brings the texture you have created to life. If you add too much water then add more colour and vice versa.

Once happy with the colour added I dry the canvas with a heat gun. Also included in the kit was a gold mousse, that's so versatile. I rubbed it over the background to show more texture, I rubbed it on the chipboard circles. I also added it to the row of triangle but I added it with a palette knife so it was thick and lump.

After gluing the chipboard pieces to the canvas, I added black paint splatters. I couldn't find a paint brush at the time so I improvised and used my palette knife. Love the result.

I also created a couple of backgrounds.

These were done on a pieces of mixed media paper, the can be cut up to be used in a layout, another canvas, as an art journal page or even on cards.

Using Up Your Leftovers

Good Morning,

Have you got sitting on your work table left overs from kits that you have brought from us? Well I am here today to share a couple of cards that I created using some of the leftovers. For my post last month I create a canvas using Expo Kit No. 8

This is the gorgeous layout create by Elisa that you can create with Expo Kit No. 8
This is the canvas that I created with the kit. Click here to see my tutorial

This is the first card I am sharing with you, please keep reading below for a quick tutorial on how I created it.

In the kit was two pieces of cardstock, one was kraft and the other was white. When I created the canvas above I only used a small portion of the white cardstock so I had the whole 12x12 piece of kraft cardstock left which I cut up to create my cards.

The first step in my process was to cover the front and back of the cardstock with clear gesso (not supplied in kit). This was to create a surface that I could add my mediums to.

Using an old store card I scraped black gesso (not supplied in kit) down my card. I didn't want it perfect I wanted movement and texture.

I wanted to use the stamp and left over gold leaf. So I put some glue on some foam and then stamped into the foam and then on to my card three times then I spread the left over gold leaf. I think it work really well as you can read the words.

One of the left over feathers I first covered with a couple of thin layers of the white gesso (supplied) and then I went to town with the dylusions spray. Not sure how many coats I sprayed but I did dry in between layers to get the desired effect.

Before I attached the feather to the front of the card I splattered dylusions over the top of the card.

This is the second card I want to share with you.
This poor card started out in such a different way to what it ended up becoming.

Like the previous card I created I used an old store card to scrap gesso down the card surface, this time using the white gesso supplied.

To create my circles I actually used the circle shape that was left after I had removed all the pieces from the main 12x12 chipboard.

I found a small paintbrush and traced inside the circle shape onto my card. I made sure that I dried each circle as I went.

Using a watercolour pencil I traced around the outside of my circles and then activate it with water.

I hadn't planned on having a thick black border but when I was inking the edges I smudged it so then I smudged it some more.

I watered down some of the white gesso and created the splashed all over the surface of my card. Because the dylusions reactivates with liquid some of my spots turned blue which added to the background of my card.

The last step was to use a black ink from my stash on my stamp and then decided which words I was going to use.

Here is a close of up the background.

Once upon a time...

Good Morning!

Well, I don't know about you, but its been a wet couple of weeks at our house, which has meant lots of scrappy time! Today I'm going to share with you a couple of layouts featuring Echo Park's 'Once Upon a Time - 'Prince' collection.

Now, I'm not sure if you noticed, but we are a little short of Princes in our house, so I borrowed some pics from my neighbours! They are the cutest!

I got a little messy on the background, with some Gesso, and some Colourblast watercolour cube in 'Singin' the blues' (mixed with white paint to make that gorgeous pastel blue), and some navy ink. I added some texure with a Kaisercraft stamp and some Stazon ink.

From the collection, I included the striped paper on the bottom half of the page, the enamel dots, and some die cuts. I then added some thickers, and wood veneers from my stash, as well as some gorgeous flairs from Cocoa Vanilla.

For my next layout, I used the awesome tree paper from the 'Prince' collection. My kids, nieces and nephew, had just gone on an epic 10k bush walk and I thought this paper would work for those pics.

I used some gesso to quieten down a section of the page, and then used the Echo Park Noble Knight stencil with some white texture paste for added dimension. The red strip of paper is from the Echo Park 'Pinstripes' collection.

I added some die cuts from the collection, as well as some Layered Stickers and enamel dots. From my stash I added wood veneers, flairs, thickers, stickers and twine.

I love the way both these layouts turned out! Thanks for stopping by to check them out.

Big Loves,
Tam x
