Reflections - shaker cards

Hi everybody,
It's Donna here with some more cards using the Jillibean Soup paper that were in the September Cropaholic kit.

The theme for this month's challenge is Reflections, and looking at our favourite projects. I chose this card that I made about a month and a half ago because I love it, and because it highlights one of my favourite things- shaker cards. Here is the card I'm talking about.

In this post I have also included a detailed how-to for making your own shaker cards or elements in your scrapbooking pages.

I have below a picture of all the elements I used to make another shaker card below. The only things not pictured are clear plastic, like the plastic that the kits come in, and adhesive tape. The important thing here is the rectangular white piece with a square cut out of it. You can make any shape shaker, like the small hearts which are all individual shakers in the card above. If you have a cutting machine, this step is easy, but the same effect can be made by carefully cutting a hole out with scissors.

First I attached the frame to the front of the card. This is optional, but I thought for this card, the pop of green would stop the card from being too pink all over.
Next, on the back of the panel, I laid down some adhesive tape (glue would be just as good) and cut a piece of plastic to just larger than the cutout window and laid it on top. If you look carefully, you can see the clear plastic in the photo below.
Once the plastic was in place, I added the next layer of adhesive. This time it was foam tape. You can do two layers if the bits that you want to shake around are thicker, as they were in the heart shaker card. The important thing is to not leave any gaps around the window, because the sequins will escape if you do! I had to be especially careful in this case, because the sequins, which come from my stash, are tiny, and also because the You are Amazing panel was only just bigger than the window.

I added some sequins to the middle of the window, then peeled off the middle tape, and placed the You are Amazing panel face down on the window. I then added a little more flat tape to the middle section.

Next, I peeled off all the backing and stuck the shaker element to my card, which was exactly the same size as the shaker panel.
Finally, I added the flamingos and flowers to complete the card, using a mix of flat and dimensional adhesive tapes.
Finally, here is the completed card.

Until next time, may you know how amazing you are,

Blessings,
Donna

Magical See Through Card and June Challenge

Hello everybody! It's Donna here, and I'm very happy to be sharing two projects with you today.

This month, I had the excitement of playing with some of the mixed media products that are for sale in the Shop and Crop store. I have made a card project that features two of these products: Lindy's Stamp Gang Magical Powders ( I had 'hag's wart orange' to play with) and Stāzon Studio Glaze (The colour I had was 'St Valentine')
I have made a card to showcase these products. I loved how they both behaved, but was particularly enamoured with the Magical Powder. The colour was so vibrant that I used the tip of a pin to apply as little as was needed. I think it will last forever! Just look at the beautiful variation of colour that I got from just the one colour (Yes, that is one colour only on the watercolour panels!)

Here's what I discovered:
  • Studio Glaze - This product goes on opaque, but dries transparent. It worked well on both paper and acetate. It made beautiful circles, which could be made on plastic and then peeled off and applied to projects with a little glue. It would also be perfect for stained glass projects or elements.
  • Magical Powders - This powder was a treat to play with. There are so many colours in the one pot, that they give a wonderful variation, as seen in the card I made. By adding more water and mixing more, I could have also made a much more uniform colour. The powder has a subtle but gorgeous shimmer to it that was almost impossible to catch on camera. You can see it a little in the top left of the picture above.
Don't forget that you can get $5 off your order at Shop and Crop with the code DL5, so this might be a good opportunity to pick up some of these products to play with.

This card was made in sections which I stuck together once they were all dry.
If you're interested to see how I made the card, there is a video up on the Shop and Crop Youtube channel that takes you through the steps.

Now, onto the next adventure....

Isn't this month's Shop and Crop challenge gorgeous? I've really enjoyed working with this sketch to produce a card.

As you can see, I have reversed the sketch, and changed the dimensions to fit a card, but I loved the whimsical and flowing nature of the sketch, and have tried to represent this in my take on the challenge. I've used stamping, die cuts, hand coloured paper, gold and white embossing, and some paint spatters for good measure. Are you planning to enter this month? I encourage you to have a go. Just upload a photo of your finished project in Shop and Crop's "Inside Inspiration" Facebook page.

Here's a close up of some of the detail.

Until next time, happy crafting.

Sunshine - by Elisa Ablett

Hi Crafters,

Elisa here from the Design Team with my latest share, a beach inspired layout using the versatile, vibrant Studio Glazes by Tsukineko (link to Glazes in shop) and Colour Blast Australia Shimmer Sprays and Pastes.

If you place an order online with Shop and Crop Scrapbooking at https://www.shopandcrop.com.au/ don't forget to place your discount code EA5 in the spot provided upon checkout!!

Here is my finished layout -

I have included a few photos to show you how I started my mixed Media Background and how I used the Glazes on Acetate to make my stained glass circles.

Firstly, I grabbed my trusty Colour Blast Shimmer Spray in Tangareen Dream and Colour Blast Colour Sprays in Mocha and Carribean. Take the lids off and splatter each colour onto your page by gently tapping the plastic tube where you want your colour to go. I decided to keep mine on the right side of the page and leave some white space on the left. Put aside to dry. Once dry I used a black marker and a wave stencil (use the marker to trace around the waves in the stencil) to add some neat black waves to my design. Then add some Colour Blast Texture Paste in Bling with a dots stencil in the areas that you are going to put your acetate stained glass circles.

So to start I wanted to show you what the Tsukineko  Stazon Studio Glazes look like on paper and acetate but they can also be used on other surfaces including beads, acrylic, glass, metal, wood and other non-porous surfaces. You can use stencils with them and they have a handy pen like feel to them so you can lovely thin lines with them, perfect for creating faux stain glass effect.

Drying times can be lengthy if applying a thick layer, so either use thin layers and a light heat with a heat gun from a distance or you'll have to wait it out...

Shake the bottle before each use and I also gave it a little squeeze to get rid of air bubbles before squirting onto my page. It is not food safe or dishwasher safe so a wipe over with paper towel is all you need if completing ceramic or home decor projects...it is also not waterproof so you may need to seal outdoor projects to protect against exposure.

To create the circles i used on my layout, I used two pieces of acetate, i then squirted my chosen colours onto one side and then put the second piece over the top and then you can just smooth and rub over with your hand or use a brayer (lightly). Pull your acetate pieces apart and you get great patterns and texture on your acetate. Dry thoroughly.

Once dry using either circle punches, or circle dies or even just circular objects from around the house (trace around and fussy cut circles out) cut circles out of your acetate in a variety of sizes. Below is a photo of the acetate held up to the light you can see the 'stained glass effect' I just added a little glue to the back of the circles and glued them to my layout.

Here are some close ups of the layout for the finer details and the shine !

Lots of lovely colours in the range of the Studio Glazes at the Shop, head on over and have a look!!

Thank you for stopping by the blog today.
